The Nové zámky castle complex traces its history back to around 1595. The complex was specially built for the noble Waldstein (Valdštejn) family by one of the famous Italian architects of the time, Carlo Valmadi. Its location is extremely beneficial: the foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains are considered one of the most environmentally pristine areas in Czechia. Some of the best ski and tourist resorts of the country are situated nearby: Pec pod Sněžkou, Špindlerův Mlýn, Harrachov, Janské Lázně, Les Království, and others. Also, nearby is Krkonoše National Park, which spans the territory of both the Czech Republic and Poland.
